A Call For Expression Of Interest:Pilot Transactional Law Clinic

VOLUNTEERS FOR PILOT TRANSACTIONAL LAW CLINIC

The Department of Commercial Law at the School of Law is in the formative stages of establishing a Transactional Law Clinic (TLC). As a precursor to formalizing the establishment, the Department is desirous of recruiting ten(10) volunteer law students: 5 third year and 5 fourth year law students for the pilot stage. The overriding object of the Transactional Law Clinic would be to enhance the law students’ capacity to blend their knowledge with skills to use commercial practice to advance the public interest, human rights and social justice. The outcome of this initiative is increased consciousness for the law students of the needs of the poor, vulnerable, marginalised and underprivileged in legal transactions.


The successful students will have their capacity built to train, give legal advice and support transactions of clients that qualify under the Clinic’s means and merit test. The envisaged activities will include: client interviews, legal research, presentation of research findings, training of communities and supporting advocates in legal representation, legal counselling, mediation, commercial transactions amongst others.

The requirements are:  CGPA of at least 3.00
 Applicants should be on Normal Progress
 Student MUST have offered or may be offering Commercial subjects and International
and Regional Human Rights Law.
 Should NOT be on the CLAPMOC Programme
