Right Rev. Bishop of Namirembe Diocese & Celebrants,
Guest of Honour & Key Note Speaker,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
I am honoured to speak on behalf of the awardees of Certificates of Recognition and Achievement, Medal of Achievement and Orders of Merit by KCB. We are all immensely grateful.
My association with Budo, spurred by my father, Nguli George William Bakibinga, spans 56 years, particularly as a student (1967-1971), during which I served as Time Keeper, Scout Patrol Leader, Chapel Warden and Ghana House Prefect. Later I served as Vice President of the Old Budonian Club (OBC)for 2 years, during which OBC acquired property in Kikaya, Kampala which is the home of Old Budonians Club.
I hold 3 degrees: LLB(Makerere), MA (London Metropolitan University) and PhD(Laws) (University of London) received 42 years ago. I am currently, the longest serving Professor of Commercial Law at Makerere University (since 1998) with 18 published books.
The award comes 9 days after my recognition by Makerere University for service as Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance & Administration, in the company of Old Budonians (OBs) Professors Apollo Nsibambi former Chancellor and Senteza Kajubi, former Vice Chancellor (both deceased) as well as former Chairpersons of Council, Dr. David Byatike Matovu and Matthew Rukikaire. Both Nsibambi and Rukikaire were Head Prefects at KCB.
Finally, a word on Budo, going forward:
1. Expand classroom and dormitory accommodation for existing students and install solar street lights;
2. Embrace digitalization as a learning tool;
3. Adapt the learner centred or student participatory approach to teaching; and
4. Prepare to embrace OB Amanya Mushega who Chairs forthcoming Education Review Commission Report, which may include some accommodation of vocational training.
Thank you for listening to me. Gakyali Mabaga.
