Mr. Godard Busingye Successfully Defends His LL.D Thesis

Mr. Godard Busingye successfully defended his PhD thesis before a panel of academicians during a public defence held at the School of Law yesterday. Busingye becomes the second LLD Student in the history of the School of Law following Professor Ben Twinomugisha who was the pioneer LLD student at the Law School Makerere University.

The Public defence was the first of its kind in the School of Law and according to Dr. Damalie NaggitaMusoke, this is a land mark achievement and that many more are expected given that the number of persons seeking to undertake the LLD program is on the rise.

Dr. Busingyeexamined the Law and Gender relations in Land decision-making processes in Uganda on a case study of Ibanda Town Council.The study examined the law and gender relations in land decision making in Uganda.Professor Joe Oloka-Onyango and Prof. Sylvia Tamale were the supervisors, while Prof. Ben Twinomugisha was the discussant.

The members of the doctoral committee included comprised of Dr.Ronald Naluwairo, the Deputy Principal and Chair, Dr. Ronald Kakungulu Mayambala, Dr. ZaharaNampewo, Dr. Sarah Ssali from CHUSS.The Director of Research and Graduate Training Professor Buyinza noted that as the administrators of graduate training in the University, it is always a pleasure to host such events which is a measure of performance.

Mr. Busingye commended all the persons that supported him during him in his academic journey that included family and friends and the academia. He pointed out that the lack of libraries in the country was a major setback in as far as accessing the requisite literature for the study.
