New Coordinator for the Administrative Officers’ Law Short Course
Ms. Patricia Atim P’Odong is the New Coordinator of the Administrative Officers Law Short Course (AOLSC) offered at the School of Law (SoL), Makerere University. Ms. Atim P’Odong replaces Dr. Kakungulu-Mayambala who had coordinated the course for the last 8years; Dr. Kakungulu-Mayambala was recently appointed Director – Makerere University Jinja Campus.
The Administrative Officers Law Short-course started in 2009 as a collaborative initiative between the then Faculty of Law and the Department of Distance Education (DDE). In 2010, the School of Law Board began conducting the course independent of the DDE. In September 2011, SoL: AOLSC was endorsed by the President’s Office through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Service as a requirement for entry, promotion and confirmation of Administrative Officers. Currently, SoL partners with districts to offer the course to their officers. The course is 2months with a minimum requirement of an A’ Level Certificate or its equivalent.
Ms. Atim P’Odong is an Assistant Lecturer and Ag. Head of the Legal Aid Unit of the Public Interest Law Clinic (PILAC) at SoL. Previously, she served as Head-Clinical Legal Education (CLE) for 10years under PILAC. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all Courts subordinate thereto. She has been an instructor on the AOLSC since 2015 largely focused on stations of Gulu, Arua and Lira in Northern Uganda. Patricia is slated to receive her PhD from the University of Cape Town, South Africa later this year (2023). She brings a wealth of experience from PILAC which will be beneficial for the continued growth of AOLSC.
