Makerere Law Society (MLS) celebrates 50 years of existence this year

 

Established in 1971, the association comprised of Law students has realised a number of strides in nurturing peer leadership and strategic direction for the student community over the years.

According to Ms. Kirabo Zeta the secretary for Information MLS, it was in the year 1971, that the law students of the time discovered a need to establish a Students' Union at the then Makerere University Faculty of Law. They were inspired by a deep desire to inculcate the traditions of the legal profession and to foster social interaction at all levels among law students to produce holistic lawyers with an aim of creating a responsible student body.

She said over the past 50 years since its inception in 1971 as the representative body for students at the school of Law,  Makerere Law Society, under the stewardship of our immediate and past predecessors had reached various milestone achievements in line with the founding principles and objectives.
'We find that these efforts deserve to be revered.' She said.

MLS launched  an  online Jubilee celebrations with the rollout of the *#MLS@50 LOGO*  under the theme; ”Diversifying professional knowledge and career opportunities for Law Students"

Other  activities were planned  and were to be  communicated in the coming days.

They  include;

 A Public Lecture on 10th August 2021where a key note address shall be given by one of the Best Legal Brains in Africa in line with the cherished values and responsibilities of the Makerere Law Society.

In partnership with the College of Computing and Information Sciences (COCIS),MLS made effort to diversify knowledge through external correspondence initative in an event under the theme; Emerging Technology Technology the Right to privacy.

The  entire students' community at Makerere University, the Makerere Law School Fraternity, alumni and well wishers of the Makerere Law Society are urged to join in  celebrating the journey since 1971 to 2021
