Makerere University School of Law At 50

A Documentary produced in commemoration of 50 years of existence of the School of Law of Makerere University. The School of Law has distinguished itself among other Schools of Law as one of the best places to nurture legal minds. This assertion follows over fifty years of experience since its formation in 1968 as the first and only institution teaching law in Uganda.

Makerere School of Law introduces masters programme on extractives

 

Law scholars from across East Africa have welcomed the proposal to introduce a masters law program with a course in extractives, policy and practice in Makerere University. They say it will to nurture home grown experts in the extractives rather than relying on foreign experts in negotiations. Principal of Makerere University School of Law Prof Christopher Mbazira says there is need to prepare the next crop of lawyers to advise government on the extractives industry.

Public Interest Law Clinic (Pilac) is a premier University based Law Clinic in Uganda affliated to the School of Law Makerere University. It was established in 2012 and is accredited to provide legal aid services by Uganda Law Council.

 

Through CLAPMOC, Law Students extend legal literacy sessions to the Communities and Prisons where Pilac operates; Kampala City in the areas of Katanga, Kivulu, Kimombasa, Kikoni, Kikubamutwe and Kasokoso; in Mubende in Munaina and Kaweeri Prison; in Wakiso in Kitalya and Kitala Prisons.

Students face Constitutional Court as Makerere law school makes 50

 

On Friday, twelve students from the Makerere University school of law and many others had their first ever experience of the Constitutional Court. This was during a moot court exercise presided over by a bench of four justices led by Deputy Chief Justice Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo. The event was part of celebration of 50 years of Makerere University School of Law.
